Mormon Film of the Week #3: Corral

Well, I’ve discovered there are far less high-quality films related to Mormonism online than I had anticipated. So I don’t know how long I’ll keep doing this but there are still a few pieces I’d like to share, and here’s one. It’s Corral (which I’ve mentioned before in connection with the NFB) by Colin Low, who grew up in the Mormon community in Cardston, Alberta and joined the National Film Board of Canada soon after its outset. This is his first live-action film as director, and he went on to do really impressive work with animation, social documentary, scientific film, historical documentary, and large-format film. Corral (1954) was filmed on one of the Mormon ranches in Alberta, presumably established as part of the Church’s welfare projects during the Great Depression.

Unfortunately I can’t figure out how to embed off of the NFB website onto WordPress (the reason this post is a day late), so instead of embedding it here I’ll just give a link. Have a look and click through to some of the rest of Low’s work.
